Rabbit fencing and status of garden

Here is the rabbit fence we designed for the raised beds.  There will be a trellis on the north end of each bed for growing peas, beans, cukes, melons, etc.  The whole get-up makes the raised bed look like an actual... bed.  Right now I have the sections attached with zip ties.  They didn't hold up so well in a windy thunderstorm.  Scott wants to add hinges and a latch in the middle of each side (the end sections are permantently fastened on with screws).

Vegetable Garden Update

 This weekend Dad and I worked on building some rabbit fencing to go around the raised beds.  Each bed with have 6 ~4' frames covered with chicken wire which will sit on the top edges of the sides of the beds.  The frames will be attached (tied with rope?) to support posts at the four corners and one on each side in the middle.  The northernmost support posts will be 6 feet tall with a cross beam at the top.  A trellis will then be attached between the cross beam and the top of the chicken-wire-covered frame at the bottom.

I also started some seeds inside and outside.  In the diagram below, green indicates what has been sewn directly, and blue indicates plants started indoors (click to enlarge).

Vegetable garden plans for 2011

This year I decided to try square foot gardening.  Last year I built four 4'x8' raised beds, but my plantings were rather haphazard.  I planted way too many seeds and didn't do a very good job of managing all the seedlings, sticking them in the ground at random.  I'm pretty sure I'll have to change some of the spacing, etc on this new plan as I go along, but I hope it will help me keep things more under control.
